Medium sized. Upperparts brown, and upper edge of membranes black. Belly fur white, grey cheeks, tail flattened and has naked ears.

Found hanging out as a flock on Lake Beattie close to a boat dock. The lake is surrounded by a mixed forest. Typical black neck with white cheek. Identified using eBird.

Found next to a private path, along with other balsam firs and eastern white cedar. 2 racing stripes on the underside of the needles. The bark has resin ducts.

Found on a dead fallen trunk on the side of a private path, next to a mixed forest. Foliose lichen, bright green with a black underside. Scattered on the trunk.
