This tiny painted turtle was found along the edge of the dirt road leading into Macrae Farm Park working its way towards the winooski river. It was found around 2:30, and the temperature was in the low 60s with clear skies. There was another Painted Turtle nearby that was hit by a car.
Found underneath a log along the trail
A little juvenile crossing the trail in the wooded area on the western side of the park
Mixed into the same area as the green frogs in smaller numbers: a flooded grassy area along the trail.
Really neat to see two different color variations: a classic green individual and a large, mostly brown one
Seen basking out in the marsh, some pretty large individuals as well. Counted three different turtles
This wood frog was discovered crossing Bear Trap Road in Milton, VT. I pulled over to help it cross as I was heading to Hibbard Rd, and it was found around 9pm on a 7 degree C night that was lightly raining.
Eastern Newt
Notophthalmus viridescens
Collected as part of a sample for Bsal in a vernal pool. The pool was drying up and didn't contain many adult amphibians, but there were several wood frog and spotted salamander egg masses. The weather was about 60 F with slight precipitation. This individual appears to be a pregnant female.
