Western Wheatgrass (Elymus smithii)

Observer

Description

This is the ND state grass. Common in pastures and range land. It has a blue color to it. Each leaf comes off the stem at a 45 degree angle. It is a perennial grass native to the State of ND. It is desirable for grouse food and nesting cover and cows like to eat it. This grass will decrease after it has been grazed. If you rub your finger on it from the top of the leaf towards the stem it has resistance and feels like sandpaper.
