male furgling with a water primrose petal
ID for the ducks.
Wood ducks started hanging around town a few months ago. This pair seem especially fond of our street and usually visit our garden multiple times a day. They used to just forage in the dirt and pull leaves off the plants but they have started sitting in the pond now as well.
The pond is not deep as it has a layer of rocks on the bottom of it. The male just drinks from the pond but the female almost always climbs in now. She drinks from the water while she's sitting in it. Water droplets can be seen on her head from where she dipped it under the water multiple times. She also stood on one of the submerged plants in order to groom her feathers.
She grabbed a leaf of the lambs ear plant next to her but didn't pull it off. Both ducks snapped once at a myna that got too close. They didn't care about the pigeon.
