At least six specimens on both sides of road up to 6 inches in diameter many have multiple stems.
In a swamp near Lake Winnipesaukee and the Guilford town Beach divided by a town road named Casey Road. Also lots of blueberries!
The forest floor rarely has these seedlings, or, saplings even though only 12 inches tall. The location for this is a long on utility trail where there has been some former disturbances. Sometimes there are a whole mess of ceilings which we call “itsy-bitsy’s” but they rarely survive past three years. I wonder how the regeneration of this forest will proceed given that there is an assault happening on the hemlocks which are a very prominent species.
We are in year two or three of a full on Infestation of the Hemlock will you dodged. The sunlit crowns are visibly whitened. The mid-level branches are extremely thin and there is much sunlight penetrating to the forest floor which was formally fully shaded.

Two trees at base of Breakwater on Smugglers Beach at the tip of Island on the south end up.
Larger one is greater than 8 inches in diameter.
