In Clematis.
Abundant and coning at ~ 1.5m tall
Very common at the end of Kuratawhiti Street beside the Waiohine River. It grows in a large thicket with Rubus vestitus, Lonicera japonica, Vinca major, Calystegia sylvatica and Calystegia sepium and various other weeds from dumped garden rubbish. There are what look to be hybrids between the two rubus entities. Both entities are also present directly across the river.
A few plants growing beside the Waiohine Gorge Road. The plant keys out in the main to R. vestitus but has small leaves and glabrate mature canes . This fits the description in Vol 4 for the hybrid R. ulmifolius x R. vestitus
