maybe?
have not seen C. pumilio before but am told it is present in this regen forest
This is Specimen 2 of two specimens within a couple of metres. This one has a flowering stem with flowers and seeds on it but I failed to get a photo of the whole plant. Specimen 1 appears to be the same and was photographed as a whole plant...will make an observation group

Description

Seedlings of pigeonwood, puriri, kohekohe, mahoe and karamu, under mixed native/exotic planted trees in school grounds, including about a dozen exotic palms, karaka, kohekohe, puriri karo and ti kouka. Only the palms have been observed to have have matured to fruiting stage so far, so its likely that kereru from the breeding grounds nearby in Eskdale Forest are feeding on the palms here, and bringing the [EDIT kohekohe etc] seed with them.

Kohekohe (Didymocheton spectabilis)

Description

Part of a dense grove of kahikatea, nikau, karaka, kohekohe and puriri canopies the head of a stream gully, into which stormwater is now pumped during heavy rain into a deep wide streambed, now usually dry and filled with nikau and other native tree debris plus frequent illegal dumpings of garden waste.

This grove is in Park Rd Reserve, at the tip of the Hiwihau Reserve bush corridor, joining the wider Eskdale Forest c100m downhill.

This small mown grass reserve serves the adjacent neighbourhood with a children's playground, with housing on one border, public walkway from Roberts Rd with a footbridge over the head of this gully. Karamu, tree privet, Pink jasmine, Plectranthus ecklonii (spurflower), Common ivy, Sods balsam, agapanthus, Stinking iris and tuber ladder fern line the walkway to the footbridge across the head of the gully, a few metres from the base of this tree.
