Description

Common under Betula pendula. Internal flesh discolours to blue when exposed to air.

Solitary or colonial. Pileus top initially smooth, becoming rough with age, pinkish brown to brown in over-mature examples crimson. Pileus slightly domed to flat or dish-shaped. Underside with yellow pores, Stalk pinkish, stout, broader at base.

Description

Common under Betula pendula in bark garden. Associated with Xerocomellus sp. (see https://inaturalist.nz/observations/41125137). Colonial. Stipe short, 10-30 mm long, somewhat fibrous, dull orange-brown, externally, internal fleshy pale yellow. Pileus pale orange, with rolled over margin and prominent central depression, variable in size from 30-200 mm diameter, surface more or less smooth with patches of scales and some flattened blackish hairs, central depression dark orange-brown, internal flesh pale yellow. Gills pale yellow with orange cast. Exposed flesh of fruiting body not discolouring on exposure.

Similar to Paxillus ammoniavirescens (see https://inaturalist.nz/observations/10695184) but lighter in colour.
