Description

Growing near airfield on very dry exposed clay, root system mostly exposed. Tree appears to be healthy, with multiple new cones.

Description

This is an observation reported to the Birds Auckland Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/407737962618016/ by Anna Arrol. One of the fledged dotterels we banded here in Piha. According to her, first time she sees it in that location, where a flock of Banded Dotterel usually hang out. In her own words: "I go all the time to look at the Banded dots - and I noticed it straight away, it was very bossy."

Description

Sapling 1.2 m tall growing in riparian forest. Evidently this Three Kings endemic is now commonly seen naturalised along the Waitakere coast. Naturalisations stemming for garden plantings in places like Piha, Karekare and Muriwai.

Description

Washed up tyre on the shoreline has created a 'pot plant' for the grass to grow in.

Including this obs in the NZ Marine Nature and Plastic project. 'Particles of debris from car tyres are ending up in the ocean as "plastic soup" conservationists warn.' Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-39042655
