A wild red-crowned amazon in its native range. This species can be seen quite frequently in the Monterrey area, even in the busy city parks and among streets where the cypress trees are still standing. The destruction of their habitat is very evident – the lowland forests are being cut because of the demand for new suburbs around the city. Another threat is the illegal export of trapped birds to the United States.
