Is 180 mm long and 10 mm diameter on the main shaft.

Naturalized in a shaded sheltered site under the eaves.
This Typha caught my eye in this earlier observation : https://inaturalist.nz/observations/144778588
In particular the strange lax-leaved habit and the dark female spike. It really stood out next to the normal-look T. orientalis around it. Collected some today and have compared it to T. latifolia. I chose T. latifolia because it has been recorded in cultivation in NZ, is naturalised in South Australia and Tasmania, and because when location was discarded it was iNaturalis AI's top suggestion . In the final picture here I have put together a table comparing this plant to T. orientalis and T. latifolia. Note that photo 15 is of a T. orientalis stigma for comparison. Really not sure about this though and would love input from others. Hopefully just an odd-looking T. orientalis. I have material that I plan to give to the Alan Herbarium for an ID also.
