Christmas Lichen (Herpothallon rubrocinctum)

Observer

stephens_d_12

Description

Domain: eukaryota
Kingdom: fungi
Class: arthoniomycetes
Order: arthoniales
Family: arthoniaceae
Species: C. rubrocincta

I found this lichen attached to a tree at lettuce lake. It caught my eye because I have not seen a lot of pink lichens and they are usually green or brown in color. They appeared to be set in pink rings on the tree.
