@johnklymko I can make out hairs on the left eye (at least). Could this be Psilota, or have I missed other features to confirm/deny?

@johnklymko Does this look right? If so, my first encounter with this Genus :)
The animal had four relatively short limbs, a large head, and a tail that ended in a triangular point. The shell was patterned in large squares and was large, roughly 25x30 cm in dimension. The animal moved under algae and through the reeds, mostly underwater.
Attracted to light
Caught and killed in an apartment building by a house cat.
Note the rufous stripes on the top of the head and the beak and none on the chest, which differentiate from the Yellow Warbler.
