Description

Sycamore maple infected with Cryptostroma corticale, the fungal agent responsible of Sooty Bark Disease. Diagnostic was confirmed by the Pacific forestry Centre, Victoria, BC. Tree removed by Victoria City on Jan. 11th 2024 (two last photos)

Description

Sycamore maple infected with Cryptostroma corticale, the fungal agent responsible of Sooty Bark Disease. Tree is dead. Dieback symptoms observed in Sept. 2023.

Description

Norway maple (Acer platanoides) infected with Cryptostroma corticale, the fungal agent responsible of Sooty Bark Disease. White immature stroma erupting from debarked stem (probably by rodents). Diagnostic was confirmed with morphological observation of the conidia and qPCR test (Pacific forestry Centre, Victoria, BC).

Sycamore maple infected with Cryptostroma corticale, the fungal agent responsible of Sooty Bark Disease. White immature stroma with lightly colored conidia; should turn brown to black with time. Diagnostic was confirmed with morphological observation of the spores and qPCR test (Pacific forestry Centre, Victoria, BC).
