What

Heath-leaved Banksia (Banksia ericifolia)

Observer

dantsai

Date

September 29, 2019

Description

This plant is in the proteaceae family because its leaves were hard, stiff, and leathery to withstand drying. I believe it is in the genus banksia because of the characteristic spiked cone flower. I’ve identified it as Heath-leaved Banksia because of its orange candle like cones with 10-15mm long rosemary like leaves. I believe it is this specific species opposed to other banksia because this one is specifically native to the blue mountains and its orange cone is distinct from the yellow and red banksia also found in the mountains. Its spiked leaves are also distinct from banksia such as Banskia integrifolia and banksia mensiesii, which have wider flattened compound leaves.
