On road in park.
Weather conditions: Warm, light rain
Location: On a large leaf surrounded by other large leaves and plants
Behavior: Resting on the leaf
Identification:
a) Class: Amphibia because it is a tetrapod with moist, scaleless skin. Subclass: Lissamphibia because it is extant. Order: Anura because it has a stout body with long hind limbs, large mouth and eyes compared to its body, and no tail as an adult. Family: Hylidae because it has toe pads. It is a green tree frog because it is small and green with white stripes down the sides of its body.
b) It was a warm morning and moist outside.
c) It was in a PVC pipe where frogs like to hide because it gets moist.
d) It was with other green tree frogs in the PVC pipe. This one was poking its head out, possibly getting ready to jump out.
Some of the geese were on an adjacent bank outside my mom’s house the others were on the opposite side. They looked like they were preening themselves on a warm bright and sunny afternoon at about 91 degrees Fahrenheit. I did not see much other behavior going on except a little bit of swimming by a couple of them. Usually I can hear them vocalizing, but not this time.
Class: Aves
Subclass: Neognathae
Order: Anseriformes
I identified these birds by their spatulate bills, their feet being farther back on their body, and their semi-aquatic nature.
The duck was on the sidewalk looking like it was about to board the bus. Most likely the duck was looking for food from people who have fed them before. So the duck associates the bus and people with food. It was very cloudy, not extremely hot with the temperature at 74 degrees F, and breezy.
Class: Aves
Subclass: Neognathae
Order: Anseriformes
I classified this bird as Anseriformes because of its spatulate bill probably a filter feeder and because of it palmate feet which you can kind of see in the picture.
Diptera
Animal was handled with care and with proper training. N-95 masks were worn and hands were cleaned after handling. Released safely. I’m counting 6 plantar pads
