These trails were Eciton level or beyond. I suppose it were bit exaggerated as it seemed the trails were collapsing back to the colony but it sure was one of the most extensive ant trails I've encountered.
How could such species be named after the male?
even where they are faily common i think I've not seen a proper populated trail
Colony dominating some low branches and nearby sign board. I always had an impression of D. sibiricus being incompetent aphid keepers. maybe their sisters are bit better
much smaller than I thought
never seen them forage this much in Jena, maybe its seasonal? or maybe related to the population density?
they probably make up most of Vienna ant biomass, but I always end up not taking pictures as much. like compared to Dolichoderus or Formica
due to their conspicuous color patterns these ants seem to be overrepresented on iNaturalist. Don't mind if I make it worse
wan't planning to spam these ants but they're so often near Dolichoderus
The pictures are taken by @ants_netherlands21
I always forget how beautiful they are
Is someone keep changing this ant's common name?
dominating the sandy faces of this hill
seemed to be monogygous thats weird
