Description

Flowers emerge clusters of buds on a tall stalk. Flowers held on individual stems as they open. Flowers have four petals that are narrowed at the base. Petals are veined with a dark violet and are about 1" across. White and lavender colored flowers on same plant. Leaves are broad and closer to ground, bushy. Stalks are branched with bud heads at tips.

This plant was about 20" tall. It was growing in a property that used to be an orchard. Property is in Placer Co. between the cities of Roseville and Lincoln, in the unincorporated area. I noticed other plants like this in the area, especially near fence lines and the edges of roads. Many were yellow or purple flowered.
