A far ways off from the pond -- sitting in some fresh runoff rolling down the fire road. Dark and wrinkly throat.
Slime on the cap tasted mild, found on a steep hillside adjacent to some oaks, ferns, and Dougs. Originally mis-ID'd as a viscid violet cort.
Visibly decaying on S. hirsutum; colonizing an old oak limb.
Sweet odor, mild flavor. Dry caps. Spread around a densely populated young Doug fir thicket. Bruised a blush pink!
Tasty 😎👌
Found under some redwood in a Douglas fir grove, stipe peeled with little prompting.
In a sparse tanoak and quercus area, not a lot of foot traffic at all.
Growing on a dead quercus, beneath the redwoods.
Squishy! About 2" long with a couple 1" blobs surrounding the main mass.
Plentiful and scattered among suburban mulch.
Right along the roadside embankment, sprouting off an inconspicuous stump.
Growing on conifer twigs.
Taking up residence in a long-decayed tanoak stump.
Surrounding adolescent and mature live oaks in chunky and intermittent little circles, approximately 3-6' from the trunk bases.

Found under mature Doug firs on a ~35° north-facing slope, underneath substantial lichen and moss coverage. Suspecting X. atropurpureus...? Tasty when sauteéd, but reportedly bitter around the edge of the caps.
