What

Confused Fescue (Festuca lemanii)

Observer

sedgequeen

Date

January 29, 2024 10:35 AM PST

Description

Festuca lemanii was apparently seeded in here for erosion control after road construction and the population persists. Plants were identified by leaf sclerenchyma arranged as a narrow banded under the epidermis, all of one consistent thickness. Also, adaxial leaf surface with 4 grooves and many tiny hairs. Also, cespitose growth form. Earlier in the season, inflorescences had fairly dense heads with small spikelets.
