On twigs near melting snow. Columella: white. Capillitium: pale brown-hyaline, 1-2 um. Spores: 10.3-12.9(16.0), dark brown, spinulose, with swelling on one side giving an "eyeball" appearance.
Texture is like marshmallow cream. Substrate is probably well-rotted birch, but it’s hard to tell with no bark left. A nearby rotted birch has wood that looks a lot like this. Other common trees in the area are white pine, beech, hemlock, and oak.
