Did this show up from the bird seed?? Growing under feeders.
Perigynia are glabrous and scales too short to be C. bushii. Sheath seems even more dramatically hirsute as well.
On a rocky wooded slope. Common on this site.
In a rocky wooded slope. This is a tall grass, about four feet in height. Last shot shows that the stems had only about 4 leaves. That, and the lack of clear auricles at the ligule lean to this ID and away from B. latiglumis.
Wish I had caught this in flower
A known location, but hard to find in fruit. State-endangered.
In a high quality sedge meadow. Jim Pelletier shows the full height at around 4 feet holding a once upright stem. State-endangered in Massachusetts. More common in the Upper Midwest. This is apparently the very first iNat obs in Massachusetts, which I have to say does surprise me a bit with all the great Carex fans in the state.
Seemingly only a handful of iNat observations in Massachusetts so far, but I don't feel like it's super rare. We watch-list this species.
