Dive Report: Cathedral Cove

07 August 2024
9am High Tide
Vis 6m
Wave height 1m
Wind 4 knots
52 minutes
Max depth 16m
14 degrees
Two wetsuits, thermal and hood (still cold)

Gentle swell, sunny early morning. started dive at high tide, wave height just under a metre for launching the kayak. Two sets of wheels was great, one trip from the car to the ocean, two trips from the ocean to the car.

Big snapper kept their distance, very different to my last dive only 100m from here where they mobbed me. A few leatherjacket, spotty and red moki. So many species of tiplefin (common, variable, y&b, oblique, spectacled and blue eyed all in one dive). Cool to see the puffer feeding. Absolutely massive school of violet sweep following me around, later joined by small school of trevally. Goatfish further east on sand.

Kelp looked good but a bit worn. Not a single urchin, no kina, no centros!

A few little shags and pied shags on surface, no penguins this time. One reef heron, for some reason it looked quite small to me.
