House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)

Observer

kaupunkilinnut

Date

April 2024

Description

Left wing injury. Came hopping on open ground from elsewhere. Ate well suplementary food. These have healed in house sparrows within few weeks. Just needs safe vegetation and food available. Wing position likely stays little "asymmetrical" which doesn't seem to affect much for non-migratory sparrows.

These indurations appear to be latter phase of the skin symptoms? Only minor area visibly affected so there must be new feather growth or I'm interpreting wrong. No ill related behavior.

Missing feathers especially at grey cap area. Seems to have dark cheeks and white neck ring too - also explained by missing feathers (and facial expression) too? Not hybridization?

Yes. I wonder if it would be best if this field focused on injury and the other on developmental deformities and abnormalities.

Posted by jon_sullivan almost 8 years ago

I was thinking of merging the two, but instead decided to try and use the two for the different aspects (perhaps a little strained as some deformities might be caused by an earlier infection or injury). Perhaps we don't need 'Anomaly' as part of the field name here anymore.
