House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)

Observer

Date

Description

I think they're house sparrows, but I'm not great at differentiating female coloring yet.

Heard a commotion with lots of chirping. Most of the bystanders flew off when I approached, but these two were having an all-out brawl. They seemed to be tussling over something clasped in their beaks, but spouse and I couldn't make out what. (If only I hadn't forgotten the memory card for my non-phone camera...)

This yard is a regular haunt for the neighborhood mourning doves, but no sign of them today.

@asemerdj: Aaah this one could be useful, I might move my field "Interaction: Defended territory from" (/observation_fields/3495) over to this more general one, which doesn't involve assumptions about the purpose of a chase. And it could also be useful for predators chasing potential prey, but which don't succeed.

Posted by tony_wills over 8 years ago

Ok, I merged my field, and added a description, you might want to improve it :-)

Posted by tony_wills about 8 years ago

I've changed all the interaction field names from "Interaction: " to "Interaction->" to stop them messing with the photo tag processing on photo import. When adding photos already tagged with fields to the "Add an observation" page, it was only grabbing the field name text after the colon and so not working properly.

Everything works now that the colon is gone, so long as you use a recognised taxon name. For example, if I tag a photo on my computer with "Interaction->Visited flower of=Rosmarinus officinalis" and upload it, it will get this field added with the taxon Rosmarinus officinalis.

That can save a lot of time if you''re maintaining your own photo library in your computer and tagging lots of photos there and uploading them all at once.
