Started as a natural historian in New Jersey in second grade and, by age 13, I correctly identified a Royal Paulownia that had puzzled newspaper readers. I've been learning about the Florida landscape for the past half century. I'm mostly a plant person, but generally omnivorous in my interests. I've been professionally involved in locating both Okeechobee Gourds and Prickly Apple Cactus, but I'm best known for my interest in cabbage palms, Sabal palmetto, which resulted in a book: The Palmetto Book: Histories and Mysteries of the Cabbage Palm. I also have a cabbage palm blog: palmettobook.blog and post cabbage palm photos on Instagram as jonocabbagepalm. If you happen across noteworthy cabbage palms, ask to join my iNaturalist project dealing with such.
