hi everyone

I am a professional scientist. I completed my PhD in the systematics of Australian sea hares in 2020, and currently work for the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development as a Fisheries Scientist/ molecular biologist (primarily working on genomic responses in marine life to climate change) in the Marine Ecosystems. I am also an invertebrate taxonomist specialising in marine molluscs. My particular scientific interest is marine sea slugs in south eastern Australia.

I have a passion for nature and the environment. As a hobby I spend a lot of time documenting biodiversity in my local area by photography (particularly macro and micro sized life) and posting these to iNaturalist, which is a much needed and long-awaited global, permanent visual database of species diversity.

There are several projects that I am involved in ranging from the Sea Slug Census program (for which myself and principal others were shortlisted for a Eureka Prize in 2023), to the annual Great Southern Bioblitz, where I am associated with teh Coffs Harbour, NSW group.

Most of my images have been taken using and Olympus TG5 or 6, but I have recently moved onto using a Nikon D7500 with an AF 40mm macro lens.

There are a few major biological groups that interest me, mainly those with highly varied forms and flamboyant colours such as the nudibranchs, the peacock spiders and some Australian flora.

I'm usually up for fun photo field trips so please get in touch if you are in the area and want some company.
