The Fundacion San Ignacio del Huinay is a scientific research station located in northern Patagonia, in the heart of the Lakes Region, Chile (Region Los Lagos). Created in 1998 by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) and Enel Generación Chile, we have been dedicated to protecting and studying the unique fjord ecosystem we inhabit, preserving one of the few remaining biodiverse and pristine areas on the planet.

For more than two decades, the Foundation has monitored the Comau Fjord, achieving advances in the understanding of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems of Patagonia. It's focus is the growth of the institute as natural laboratory to expand scientific information and knowledge about the impact of climate change on Patagonian ecosystems.
