Subspecies is not a valid taxonomic rank and if you assign it to snakes you're actively perpetuating a system that makes it harder for people to learn evolutionary biology and understand their biogeography. You might think you're helping but you missed important literature and are being propped up by other amateurs and holdouts from the 1980s when we couldn't test DNA directly.
