The subspecies epithet 'major' needs to be changed to 'majus'. Anyway - widespread and still locally common within the 120 ha serpentinite zone. However, all plants seen suffering from possum browse, a far cry from when I first saw this subspecies in 1990, when possums were then scarce at North Cape, and flowering and fruiting plants were commonly seen. Pittosporum pimeleoides subsp. majus is easily overlooked as it typically grows within or under other low growing shrubs. This image shows a branch protruding from a dense tangle of Coprosma distantia.
