Wild boar, struck on Highway 126, a rarity in Ventura County.

Lt. JC Healy, a spokesman for California Fish and Wildlife, confirmed the animal was a wild boar, noting the presence of a small tusk near its snout. The animals are a rarity in Ventura County.
"They're not common around here," he said. "My understanding is Southern California is far too dry for them to thrive."
