1000 Observations and Threatened Species

Hi All,

We’ve hit the 1000th observation and 379 species, amazing work from our citizen science community. A special mention to billbutler and twan3253 who are constantly adding new and interesting observations.
There are still quite a few observations that require verification so please while we’re all staying home over the next few days please jump on and have a look to see if we can make as many Research Grade as possible.

Manly Dam is home to some pretty rare plant species; the Seaforth Mintbush (Prostanthera marifolia) is on the critically endangered list, Curved Rice Flower (Pimelea curviflora var, curviflora) and Glandular Bells (Tetratheca glandulosa) are also classified as vulnerable.

The attached article from The Conversation reveals the results of 20 year research into threatened plants in Australia highlighting the importance of community and citizen science involvement in monitoring and protecting our unique flora.
Please enjoy the read and remember when you’re out and about at the Dam please keep to the marked tracks.
