Bioblitz - Lab 2

  1. The Solidago Flexicaulis (aka the broadleaved goldenrod) is a North American plant in the Asteraceae family (aka the sunflower family). Its closest related species is the Solidago Laxiflora.
  2. All of the species I observed have adapted to use the sun's light as a source of energy. For photosynthesis to occur, the observed plant species must use chlorophyll to absorb the sun's light. Chlorophyll cannot absorb green light so it is instead reflected, giving all of the observed species a green color.
  3. The flowering plant has adapted to contain its seeds in the berries that it produces. Any animal that eats the fruit and defecates the seeds would be helping the plant spread its seeds, showing how effective this adaptation is.
