Can you believe it snowed in the desert?

With the beginning of our adventures starting in Death valley I was positive this whole trip was going to be filled with shorts and sunscreen. On the third day of our trip, we made it to our first biological station in The Granite mountains and the weather was definitely brisk. Once we got downtime from getting acquainted with the facility it seemed the whole group finally unpacked their layers and put on their outfits that wouldn't come off for the next three days. We cooked our first group meal and felt right at home in the biological station. After dinner, the group wanted to explore outside and stargaze. When we went outside the cold made our breath visible and the stars were just barely peeking out behind the cloudy sky. All of a sudden we hear someone ask if it's snowing. Curious and skeptical we all got out of flashlights and shined them to the sky... it was indeed snowing in the desert. With it being Pedro and Tayler's first time seeing snow you couldn't help but put a smile on your face watching their excitement. Amazed and happy comments flew between the people in the group such as "can every class be this way?" and "how amazing is this?!". Not thinking the snow could possibly stick to the ground because you know... we were in the desert, I was surprised to see a mini snowman built on the outside table, and pillows of snow spread throughout the ground. We had a class hike out to the spring present in the mountains with hopes to find a small pool of water filled by the melting snow. This was the first day I truly understood the variable weather the desert can have and how lucky I was to experience these worldly wonders.
