MAS - Great Crested Flycatcher

Steve Tucker found this rare vagrant Great Crested Flycatcher at the El Carmelo Cemetery in Pacific Grove on Saturday, 9/14. Great Crested Flycatcher is a member of the genus Myiarchus, the same genus as our locally more familiar Ash-throated Flycatcher. Our small number of Monterey records are from September and October at locations such as Laguna Grande Park, near Frog Pond, and along the Carmel River. Note this species' bright coloration and large bill. Its call is a distinctive wheeep!
