Exotic plants can provide useful ground cover, understorey or canopy in the transition from invasive plant domination to native plant community.
When native plants are ready to use the space, these plants can be reduced, suppressed or removed with less effort than controlling the exotic plants that would otherwise occupy the space.
Some exotic plants are benign or troublesome depending on plant community, soil type and climate/weather conditions.
This Project includes observations of some of the exotic species retained, encouraged or disseminated at various times within Gahnia Grove, with a view to assessing their impact on the transition from ongoing loss of existing and potential native plants to weed invasion, to the establishment of a native plant canopy and ground cover requiring little intervention to maintain its integrity.
