Description

I went to this spot expecting to find a lone Canyon Live Oak among the usual species of the area based on other iNat observations. But I didn't see an obvious canyon live oak.

While this large oak had some newer-growth leaves slightly reminiscent of a Canyon Live Oak (narrow, asymmetric, but my photos of those were completely unusable), for the most part looked like Coast or Interior. Several leaves had more than five lateral veins (up to 7), which is more common on Interior iiuc. However, some leaves only had 5. I didn't see any "hairy armpits" (Coast Live Oak characteristic) on the undersides, either.

Also, it had a gall that appears to be a Pumpkin Gall Wasp, Dryocosmus minusculus, which would further point towards Coast or Interior. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/135869677

I'm probably thinking too hard. Is this just a coast live oak? A hybrid?
