Of interest is that the Umatilla Depot site is a sandy plain as is the note on the herbarium sheet. Both the Umatilla site and this site are sandy Bretz flood deposit sites. The Umatilla Depot site in fact sits on a extensive sandy plain. This observation site is a steep sandy talus slope derived from varved Bretz sediments. Additionally,
the B. careyana along Highway 730 to the east at the Twin Sisters is also that of high head count plants.
