What

Supplejack (Ripogonum scandens)

Date

May 30, 2024 02:37 PM NZST

Description

Slender vine several metres high ascending a juvenile kauri. The kauri has a deep bark wound that looks like vine damage, probably from Japanese honeysuckle or pink jasmine, both of which have current infestations now being thoroughly addressed, and signs of a larger historical infetation of honeysuckle - there is a honeysuckle trunk c.6-8cm Diameter nearer the residence on the property, presumably having been partially controlled in the past as there is little honeysuckle now. The jasmine however is a current infestation which has smothered and strangled a large number of trees along about 50m of banktop above this observation.

There is at least one very extensive karaeo vine on the gorund, in understorey and in numerous tall canopy trees within about 70m.

Can we add seed to this?

Posted by nicholasmaynenz over 10 years ago

That's a great idea (and a big oversight on my part). I'll do that now.

Posted by jon_sullivan over 10 years ago

@jon_sullivan, I'm trying to work out whether I am using this field appropriately. In the /projects/seeds-fruits-propagules-in-nz project I have been adding this "Life stage" field and setting it to "seed" for both observations of seeds and fruits, as fruit isn't really a different stage of growth.

Or should we add a "fruit" stage?
