Breakfast at Anza-Borrego

The “Great Room” in Anza-Borrego Desert Research Station features floor to ceiling windows that give a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. The morning after our arrival, we gathered in this room to eat breakfast together. While the breakfast was delicious, it was difficult to focus on eating. One of the first things to grab out attention was the arrival of a coyote casually making its way across the courtyard. Everyone jumped and watched in excitement until it left. The next visit was from a pair of hummingbirds getting their own breakfast from the assortment of chuparosas planted directly in front of the windows. A rabbit, a raven, and several doves also put in appearances during this eventful breakfast. The showcase of the area’s biodiversity was so delightfully distracting that I only ended up finishing one pancake.
