Thoughts on Road Trips

In anticipation of the long drives we would be taking on this trip, I brought plenty of things to do. The list includes, but is not limited to: My Nintendo Switch, three books downloaded on my phone, my journal, colored pens for drawing, and headphones. I used zero of the items on my list while we were driving. In hindsight, I should have anticipated that I would enjoy the scenery far too much to want to play any Mario Kart. We drove past mountains, canyons, fields, salt flats, dunes, and so many other environments. In addition to the beautiful surroundings, I had to remain alert to the possibility that at any moment the instructor driving the van might call out something like “Look! It’s a shrike!” or “Look! A roadrunner!” or “Look! A double rainbow!” Overall, looking out the window provided much more enjoyment than any of the items on my list could have.
