Door middel van een kleurringprogramma (door Frank Majoor van Sovon) is het mogelijk om een overwinterende populatie Kokmeeuwen intensief te volgen, op basis van individuele herkenbaarheid. Intussen is van bijna 150 individuele vogels een zgn. ‘life history’ op te maken.
Intensief afleeswerk gedurende 10 winterhalfjaren geeft inzicht in de aankomst en verblijfduur van afzonderlijke vogels. Tevens kan een inschatting van overleving gemaakt worden, en iets gezegd worden over gedrag, plaats trouw of juist niet. Ook is exacter inzicht gekomen in de herkomstgebieden (broedgebieden) van deze overwinterende vogels.
En dat is op simpele wijze allemaal te achterhalen in de stad Maastricht (langs de Maas en in het stadspark)!

Bryoloog Henk Siebel verzorgt de woensdagavondlezing met de titel 'Wie doet het met wie hoe vaak in Tortula? Waar leidt dat toe en wat zien we hiervan?' Over het wijdverspreide fenomeen van bastaardsoortvorming bij mossen. Deze lezing start om 19:30 uur en duurt 45 minuten. Harm van der Geest, ecoloog aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam geeft uitleg over het ecosysteem. Wat is er aan de hand met het nog relatief jonge zoetwatermeer ecosysteem en hoe waardevol is het gebied: wat gaat goed, wat kan beter?
Chris Bakker, adjunct-directeur bij It Fryske Gea, gaat meer praktisch in op wat er nodig is voor de natuur. Hoe kunnen we met voor- en achteroevers binnen de randvoorwaarden van waterveiligheid en zoetwatervoorziening toch aan het nodige natuurherstel werken?
