I'm a historian professionally, but have had a fascination with the ecology of intertidal zones from the time I was little, going rockpooling with my Dad in La Jolla, California. On moving to the Devonport peninsula I picked up a copy of Morton & Miller's "The New Zealand Sea Shore" and have been poking around these beaches ever since. I have children who I am trying to teach an appreciation for the profound variety of living things that live around them.
