Winter Surveys

Hopefully you weren't too snowbound this week! Here's a great post from the Pacific Northwest Invasive Plant Council:

"Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean we can’t get some one-on-one time with nature. There are still invasive plants that you can survey and report if you see them while out and about during winter. This is the PERFECT time to also take a look around for any invasive species lurking about, but don’t forget to brush your boots before and after you go out to avoid the spread of unwanted species."

Some invasive plants that you can keep an eye out for right now in Surrey are English holly, spurge laurel and English ivy. There are also some new and emerging threats to be aware of like tree of heaven. To keep up your ID skills and learn about species of plants and animals to be vigilant for, check out the great resources on the Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver's webpage: https://iscmv.ca/
