English Ivy (Hedera helix helix)

Description

Found climbing up a tree in an open field at REFS in Coldspring Kentucky. It was warm and sunny that day, but there was not too much light showing through the overhead foliage.
There were not other naturally growing english ivies near it. They are common to this area.
The vine was average for an english ivy bush: around 10 feet in length.
I could not find any reproductive parts, but the leaves were smaller. Most were 4 inches long.
3-5 lobed leaves with an alternate leaf arrangement.

Found in along a trail in a wetland at REFS in Coldspring Kentucky. It was warm and sunny that day, and there was a good amount of natural sunlight.
There were not other naturally growing junipers near it. They are relatively common in this area and are usually a source for allergies.
The plant was smaller for a juniper: around 12 feet tall.
I could not find any reproductive parts, but the leaves were small. Most were 2-4 mm long.

Description

Found in along a trail in a forest at REFS in Coldspring Kentucky. It was warm and sunny that day, but there was not too much light showing through the overhead foliage.
There was a large clump of mayflowers growing near each other. Most likely one plant growing a large system of offshoots. They are not common because they are spread by native turtles.
This was smaller for a mayflower patch: around 15 feet long by 15 feet wide.
I could not find any reproductive parts, but the leaves were large. Most were 10 inches long and the plants were 6 inches tall. This is most likely to soak up as much sunlight as possible.
Palmately compound leaf arrangement.

Comments

I just added the option "vegetative only" to capture when the adult plants at your site are not in any of the above reproductive states (flower buds not yet visible).

Posted by jon_sullivan over 8 years ago

I just had to change the name of this field from "Plant phenology: most common flowering/fruiting reproductive stage" to "Plant phenology->most common flowering/fruiting reproductive stage" since the colon was interfering with uploading tagged photos.
