2 amazing rescues today at a very wet and cold #pelicantime
First up was before most people were even there and a pelican that showed up last week with line coming out his beak, presented again! Without even opening up the bucket that had the fish, Brenda Campbell with some great hands, grabbed this boy and was able to get the hook out of the pouch that was trailing line out of his beak and release straight away!! YAY Brenda!!! AMAZING!! Ps Brenda is not strangling the bird 😂 and no birds were hurt in the rescues - the hooks though are causing issues with the poor birds!!
Then the second rescue was a bird we have been after for awhile and our fabulous rescuer Jessie Fancett finally had a weekend off work and BAM!!! Got the bird we have been after!! A great toss and run and the bird was in her hands and the hook was taken out of his body and he was released straight away!! YAY!!!
The public that braved this cold wet weather were definitely treated to an amazing educational treat with 2 rescues and lots of great photos!!!

Another pelican rescue at Pelican Time by MWRCC Vollie Michelle Proudfoot!!! Was a brilliant rescue with a well placed fish and great hands by Michelle!!! The gorgeous girl had a hook in her back trailing line, which we were able to take out and let her go straight away! Well done!!!

There were 2 other pelicans that had hook and line injuries which we will continue to try and catch!!
Plus the team helped when a fisherman caught a cormorant whilst fishing near the The Entrance Boat Shed and was about to cut the line, which is what we have been trying to educate them not to do! Luckily he then reeled the bird in and the team and awesome member of the public Marissa helped and took the bird to the vet for us as he had 3 other hooks in him!!
