What Good Photographs Must Have 4

There are two main types of river eels in New Zealand.

New Zealand Longfin Eel Anguilla dieffenbachii which is endemic and Short-finned Eel Anguilla australis.

In order to get an ID for the river eel that you photograph, you must get a photo of the top fin. The top fin of the longfin eel is usually about 2/3 of the length of the body (first three photos) while the short fin eel has a top fin of about 1/2 the length of the body (last photo).
